The train...

Santa Pola, with its fishing tradition and natural beauty, offers visitors 73% of the protected area, a mild climate with average annual temperature of 18 º C, a cuisine based on the Peix of Santa Pola and 11 miles of beaches sand. Its privileged location, just 10 km. El Altet airport and 17 km. Alicante make this city an ideal place for leisure and recreation throughout the year.

 

The Sierra de Santa Pola, the Parque Natural de las Salinas and Tabarca, form a beautiful environment of great environmental interest being the out of Santa Pola one of the most important geological formations in Europe.

 

On the top of the cape we find “Gran Alacant” that is part of the municipal district of Santa Pola with a wide range of leisure activities on offer:  shops, restaurants, establishments with live music, supermarkets, a play ground for the children, post office, plus numerous public amenities such as a library, health centre and a local police station.

 

The shrine called la ermita de Rosario and the natural park el Clot de Galvany are located close to the sand dunes; there are two walking trails around the park where tourist can see typical examples of the area’s flora and fauna and spot the six casemates or bunkers built during the Spanish civil war that are hidden away.

 

The lighthouse stands right up on the highest point of Santa Pola, it was built in 1858on the ruins of one of the three watch towers that date back to the 16th century in Santa Pola, the Atalayola Tower. From here the views of the bay of Santa Pola, Alicante and the island of Tabarca are magnificent.

 

In the hills there are plenty of walking and cycling trails to go on, plus the remains of wells built by anti-aircraft batteries in the civil war, with underground tunnels and passageways dug out in the rock to discover.
